![]() That's normal.Ī 1000mbit line is 125 MB/s, but of course you may never see that from Steam's servers. There are 8 bits in a byte, so yeah, a 20mbps line is 20 / 8 or 2.5 MB, so you'll only see a max of 2.5 MB/s of download speed on a 20mbit line. Steam is working in megaBytes per second. When you say 20MBps, that's megabit and should be written mb(little b)ps. So if you ask me a lot of it depends on Steam and their settings. When I download any game from steam on this connection I average about 45 MBps When downloading any game from steam I download on this connection at about 2 MBps.Ģnd connection 1000 MBps download 100 MBps upload Originally posted by iRacer™:I download from 2 connections.ġst connection 20MBps download and 1MBps upload It doesn't matter how fast your internet is during that process, it's comes down to how fast your SSD/HDD can perform a write. When it says there's no download and there's disk usage, it's because steam is delta patching a file. When they get written, the steam client is not working on the existing file either, it makes a copy of it, which takes time, then it delta patches it, which takes more time, then once it's verified and passes a hash, the original file is overwritten (which, you guessed it, takes more time). (I couldn't find a good channel for this post that's why it is in general.)Īrk's cache is huge and the files the updates write can be quite large (3-10GB in some cases). Any other game in steam or any other launcher I can download 20 GB in half an hour while with Ark I'm always happy when 200 KB are done within an hour. ![]() My downloadspeed is always zero but writingspeed is always high (~40mb/s).
